Heritage-listed Art Deco architecture on show at new Kimpton Margot Sydney

Australia’s first Kimpton Hotel will open on 14 February 2022 featuring heritage-listed Art Deco architecture blended with contemporary Australian style at Kimpton Margot Sydney.

The Pitt Street property features a grand Scagliola pillared lobby that oozes 1930s glamour, complimented by bold patterns, plush furnishings and botanical displays.

I remember having a media tour through this property several years ago, back when it was Primus Hotel, and being totally struck by the Art Deco heritage features throughout not only the grand lobby but in the stairwells and corridors of each level of rooms.

Guests can look forward to dressing up in their vintage finest to attend ‘Social Hour’ – daily complimentary drinks between 5-6pm where beverages will vary from boutique Australian wines to a Four Pillars gin and tonic, or Kimpton’s signature Margot cocktail. The location for Social Hour will frequently change, perhaps hosted in the lobby, on the mezzanine surrounded by artworks, at the rooftop bar or by the pool.

The hotel’s 172 spacious deco inspired rooms and suites (most with bathtubs) all feature Mr Smith amenities and eye-catching wall art from global artists. Throughout the hotel, there is almost 600 pieces of art adorning various spaces that span nine levels.

The hotel’s restaurant, Luke’s Kitchen, is helmed by renowned chef Luke Mangan. Dine here for an a la carte breakfast, lunch dinner by moody, dim lighting. At the Art Deco style The Wilmot Bar, sip on martinis while seated on velvet lounges.

Kimpton Margot Sydney is within close proximity of The State Theatre and the Queen Victoria Building, and close enough to be within walking distance to Surry Hills and Darlinghurst.

To explore the surrounds, guests can take a Lekker bike and see the sites of Sydney or nearby Hyde Park on two wheels.

Rates start from $350 per night.
