Vintage 1990s gold coin belt
This statement vintage 1990s gold coin belt with black leather is an absolute show stopper. With beautiful craftsmanship, this belt has stood the test of time since being created in the 1990s – and remains a fashionable piece to wear today. Images of the 1990s supermodels wearing coin belts, most commonly by Chanel, come to mind. They are as fabulous today as they were in the 90s.
The brand is unknown although the belt snap closures are stamped ‘Scovill’. Morito Scovill is an American button and hardware company founded in 1802. I’m unsure if the belt itself is a ‘Scovill’ belt or merely the snap closures. Either way, the belt is incredibly well made and shows very little sign of wear, except for some slight discolouration to some of the faux coins. The coins feature some ancient Greek or Roman motifs, and one coin depicts the silhouette of Alexander the Great and another shows the silhouette of Elizabeth II Regina, suggesting to me that the belt may have been made by a British brand.
