About the designer: Glomesh

Glomesh was founded in Sydney, Australia by Hungarian immigrants Alice and Louis Kennedy who had arrived in the country fresh from the world of European couture. Their first bags were made at a factory at Bondi in 1958 with the dazzling enamel ware bags catching the attention of Sydney socialites. Alice was the model for the first ever export catalogue and continued to be the face of the brand. In the 1960s, Glomesh expanded its range to include cigarette cases, atomisers, mirrored compacts, lipstick holders, lighters and glasses cases. Alice and Louis became celebrated members of Australia’s high fashion crowd, hosting lavish parties at their home in Bellevue Hill. In the 1970s, Glomesh released disco-style slouch bags, halter tops, neckerchiefs, earrings and belts. Its advertising campaigns featured actresses Jacki Weaver, Delvene Delaney and Paula Duncan, Miss World Belinda Green and designers Jenny Kee and Carla Zampatti – and by Elle MacPherson in the 1980s.
