I love the vintage trend of tourism scarves! This beautiful aqua and pink vintage Great Barrier Reef scarf pays homage to the incredible coastline and islands dotted throughout Australia’s sunshine state, Queensland, including the Great Barrier Reef itself – the world’s largest living organism. Judging from the typeface and illustration, I estimate that this scarf dates to the 1960s and is in pristine condition…. most likely, it’s never been worn. Perhaps it was purchased on a holiday (or a honeymoon!) as a memento and keepsake, and was kept in a drawer ever since. I absolutely love the colours and illustrations that include black lipped pearl shells, nautilus and spider shells. The destinations featured include Lindeman Island, Hayman Island, Port Douglas, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Proserpine, Mission Beach, Heron Island, Brampton Island, Mackay, Hervey Bay, Whitsunday Islands (and more). There are no flaws on this classic gem. This would look beautiful both worn as a fashion piece, and would also make a show-stopper display if hung as home decor.
Designed in Australia, it’s marked as a Tropicline Production.
